Character Name: Mikasa Ackerman
Series: Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin
Timeline: Chapter 90; After reaching the ocean
Canon Resource Link: Mikasa
Character History: Up until (year?) 845, humanity was able to live in peace for 100 years with no titan outbreaks. All behind a 50 meter wall. They didn't have the most comfortable lives, but people didn't have to live in fear about humanity being wiped out. The story starts out with Mikasa waking up a sleeping Eren, crying about some dream he had. It's nothing to particularly important, but the interaction with Hannes and the Garrison soldiers drinking made Mikasa realize that Eren was thinking of joining the Survey Corps. Once out of earshot, she advised that Eren should forget about joining the Survey Corps.
That went ignored with the Survey Corps coming back. He dragged her to go see their return, only to find out out of 100 members sent, only about 20 came back injured with having made no progress on finding more about titans or where they came from. Once they returned home with the firewood, she wasted no time telling their parents that he was interested in joining the Survey Corps. She never promised Eren that she wouldn't tell them and she was concerned for his safety. Naturally it caused concern and Eren bolted out afterwards.
After going after him, they discovered that Armin was being bullied again and assisted him. After a little bit of talking, it sounded like there was an earthquake or something. Upon investigating, the trio saw something they couldn't believe. A titan that was bigger than the 50 meter wall... The tallest they'd been aware of was only around 15 meters, but they had no time to reflect on that. With the gate destroyed and titans pouring in, Eren and Mikasa were concerned about their mother (step-mother for Mikasa).
It was their worst fear, seeing her trapped under the house when it collapsed, not allowing her to move her lower half even if she got free. She begged them to run away and leave her behind, but they refused. It wasn't until she begged Hannes to take them away to safety that they got away, with some hesitation of whether not to attack the oncoming titan or run. Not everyone could get away due to the evacuation boats being too full to fit anymore. With the gate destroyed, that made living inside of Wall Maria more difficult. With the huge amount of survivors of Wall Rose, there was hardly enough food to go around.
Five years later, it is now 850 and Mikasa and Armin have followed Eren into the military and graduated as the top 10 cadets in their class. There's not much important things to note beyond Mikasa having to pull Eren away from Jean from their fighting and how they'd also followed him into the Survey Corps route. They were able to meet up with Hannes again after 5 years and catch up and more people were convinced to join the Survey Corps with Eren's inspiring speech.
Everything the cadets have trained for and worked for really showed up the day before they were going to be sent out to find a military branch to join. There was the Garrison, that defends the walls and deals with construction and repairs. And then you have the Military Police, that everyone wanted to join to live a safer, comfortable life where they guarded the king and maintained peace and order; being limited to only the top 10 cadets. And then there's the Survey Corps that explored past the walls to try to find out more about titans. Obviously it's the most dangerous branch due to having to fight titans on an almost daily basis.
Everyone were in good spirits and ready to pick their paths, involving Sasha stealing meat from the higher officers as celebration for lunch; claiming they can just focus on restocking when they took back land. Lunch time never happened, because that's when the Colossus Titan showed up once again after 5 years. This time they were determined to take it down, but it disappeared again, causing yet another hole for titans to come into.

Abilities/Special Powers: Mikasa doesn't have any supernatural abilities (unless you count her Ackerman blood, which I'll get to), but she's extremely strong. She's a natural to mostly everything, picking up techniques and executing them better than most veteran soldiers. It's been noted a number of times about how she's one of humanities strongest. While Eren was being cornered after first awaking to his power and had the Military Police surrounding him, they even noted how she was "more valuable than 100 soldiers combined" and that it would be a huge blow to humanity to try to kill her. She's something of a prodigy and is easily one of the most terrifying people to have as an enemy, maybe only second to Levi.
She mastered the Three Dimensional Maneuver Gear (3DM) with ease and is extremely efficient with taking out titans. On top of efficiency, she's also very quick and good at judging what the enemy might do to plan her next move. With the ability to quickly react and adapt to a situation, she can generally take any unforeseen event with minor casualties (if any).
On top of mechanical skill, she's very strong; no doubt because of her persistence to keep Eren alive and out of danger. When Armin was being bullied at the beginning, it briefly showed that they were not afraid of Eren at all, but the moment they saw Mikasa behind them, they were quick to run away. On top of just the normal training she does to stay fit and keep Eren, Armin, and herself alive -- along with Survey Corps expeditions -- she can generally lift things with ease (usually dragging Eren away from doing something stupid) and take a lot of hits.
Coming from her time point, she'll have no idea about the true nature of her Ackerman blood just yet. Regardless, she does have some power that's been with her since she was young. In the latest chapters, you find out that she has "awakened" to a power deep inside her that gives her the insane strength that has shown through time and time again. The first instance of this was when she had been kidnapped and Eren and Mikasa fought the kidnappers and killed them. She states that was when she realized she'd seen death time and time again, and that this was an endless cycle. She stopped shaking and she had complete control over her body, just before killing the man strangling Eren.
Eren explains to Armin and Mikasa that it was a result of her bloodline that causes her to cling to Eren. That she can access the power of titans by "knowing what needs to be done". Those she not only has access to power of titans, but also to every single Ackerman before her to gain their experience, she isn't able to become a titan herself.
Due to being of the Ackerman bloodline and one the last few Asians in existence, she's also able to resist the Founding Titan's memory manipulation that the rest of the others seem to suffer from. That said, at her point of time, she has no knowledge of the causes behind her strength, what the Ackerman bloodline is capable of, and the memory loss. She simply knows that she has these moments where she get these headaches she can't explain and the total control over her body in otherwise difficult situations.
